A strong, dark 18th centruy impression of Bartsch’s third and final state,
Usticke’s fourth state of seven, with strong contrasts, showing the three
fine vertical lines between the pen in Faust’s hand and the left edge of the
desk, probably printed by Charles Henri Watelet circa 1775, prior to the
acquisition of the plate by Pierre Francoise Basan and the first publication
of the Basan Receuil in 1789. |
