JOSE BASSO
Jose
Basso was born in
Chile
in 1949 and graduated in Arts at the
University of
Chile.
He later became an Art teacher at the same University in 1978. Jose began
exhibiting and winning awards starting in 1975, from the Valparaiso II
International Biennial Exhibition Prize to the Worldwide Millennium
Painting Competition in London. He has been granted several scholarships,
among them one to Paris in 1981, Amigos del Arte 1982, Fundacion Andes
1991 and the Fondart in 2001.
Basso quickly became famous in his own country and started exhibiting in
Europe and USA in 1979. Currently he has had very successful shows in
Brazil, China Puerto Rico, Argentina, Columbia, Japan, Italy, England,
Finland, Argentina, Africa, Spain, as well as Washington DC, Miami, and
New York. His work can be found in major galleries throughout the
United States.
The work of Jose Basso reveals such an artistic honesty that
it can be seen as a contemporary form of illumination. His paintings
provoke the sensation of the forthrightness of the landscape with a depth
of remembrance, a truth that slowly emerges. Combining minimalism with
humanistic views, dramatic scenes are splendidly portrayed, arousing the
viewers expectations. The house symbolizing a shelter of the deepest
aspirations of mankind. Basso shares with us-“the excess of stimuli makes
my art the most open as possible to all languages. I want to remain an
apprentice all my life.”
